“Home Practice—The Ups and Downs and How to Navigate Them”

Christine Goodner will be leading a workshop hosted by the Suzuki Association of Indiana on July 11, 2020, from 1:30-3:30 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Christine is a well-known Suzuki teacher and author of the book Beyond the Music Lesson and the blog Suzuki Triangle. This workshop is open to all teachers and parents and will be hosted in a Zoom group meeting format. Participants will be able to listen and interact face-to-face with Christine and the other group members as she discusses the inner workings of the Suzuki parent/student/teacher triangle from the perspective of home practice time.

If you are a Suzuki teacher or parent in Indiana, you are encouraged to also join us our organization and attend the Suzuki Association of Indiana annual meeting in the morning. There is an option on our membership registration form to register and pay for July 11 workshop there as well. You do not have to pay for the workshop twice if you submit multiple forms; just type in the appropriate amount for you once you get to the PayPal link.     Christine Goodner Bio

    Christine Goodner is a Suzuki violin, viola and early childhood education teacher from Hillsboro, OR. Christine is passionate about helping her students develop their skills to the best of their ability, while gaining a lifelong love of music. She is also passionate about helping parents work with their children with less conflict, and more positive results.


    Christine grew up in a musical family and started her violin studies at the age of 2 1/2, as a Suzuki student herself, and added the Viola in high school & college. She has a 4 year degree in Early Childhood Education and extensive teacher training through the SAA, including long term teacher training with Martha Shackford. She has also completed training with: Ellie Albers LeRoux, Susan Kempter, Yuko Honda, Sue Baer and Sharon Jones. Christine has been teaching for over 19 years, and spent a decade teaching at the Valley Catholic Music School in Beaverton, OR. There her students were consistently awarded scholarships in the school’s scholarship competition and top marks in the OMEA Solo & Ensemble competition.


    Christine is currently serving on the board of the Oregon Suzuki Association and co-director of the Oregon Suzuki Institute. She has been working with the SAA to help launch Parents as Partners Online 2020. She has a passion for parent education, lifelong learning & building community. Christine is a frequent speaker having presented at the SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas) conference & the ASTA (American String Teachers Association) National Convention in addition to many workshops and other events. She has had articles published in the American Suzuki Journal and is the author of the Suzuki licensed book ​Beyond the Music Lesson: Habits of Successful Suzuki Families, ​as well as a workbook for parents titled ​Positive Practice: 5 Steps to Helping Your Child Develop a Love of Music. She has produced and hosted the Beyond the Music Lesson Podcast, and blogs at ​www.ChristineGoodner.com​.
